Geeks have traditionally been made up of outsiders and disenfranchised but now with it being so Chic is that still true? This panel is an open discussion by performers and creators within and of popular media, who have an interest in or are currently opening up a wider POV into the new Chic Diaspora...

Designing Characters for Animation
(Panel)

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Designing characters for animation is all about creating personalities.  An artist may be able to make a beautiful piece of art, but that art must be in service to the creation of a believable character.  The viewer must be able to connect with the human part of that character, whether it's actually a human or, let's say, a fireplug.  And we must recognize what kind of 'person' that fireplug is.  Expression, gesture, design - all must contribute to the creation of that personality, and it should all come together so that a single drawing will communicate that.  And I think you know you've got a real character on your hands when that character begins to tell you what she/he will do and what she/he will not do!

- Room 230A

Attending Guests: Joel Adams, Steve Gordon, Dean Yeagle

Swamp Thing panel plus Meet & Greet
(Panel)

How many comic book characters can you name that have been with us for over 40 years without ever having worn a cape or a single stitch of spandex?  Swamp Thing rose from the bayous of Louisiana and has been with us from the days of fifteen cent comics right up to the four dollar wave of the New 52. Big Wow! is going to introduce you to four reasons why this character has endured for over four decades.

Tom Yeates began penciling and inking the second run of Swamp Thing in 1982 to coincide with the opening of the first Swamp Thing movie. Mr. Yeates gave us some of the most memorable and compelling covers including issue #21, Alan Moore’s “The Anatomy Lesson”

Steven Bissette & John Totleban worked with Alan Moore to redefine the history and character of Swamp Thing. While working on the book the pencil and ink duo were multiple Kirby Award winners including “Best Art Team”.

Rick Veitch was the first artist to pencil a fully realized John Constantine in his first full issue appearance of Swamp Thing #37. Mr Veitch also has the distinction of being the first writer/artist to take creative control of the series.

These four Kubert School Alumni will share stories on all things Swampy and answer any questions you may have.
