Steve Gordon

Genres: Entertainment

Steven E Gordon’s professional career began in 1977 when his High School art teacher saw a trade-paper ad asking for portfolio submissions. To everyone’s surprise his slap-dash, disorganized portfolio was accepted and he was hired by Ralph Bakshi Productions to work on the animated feature film Lord of the Rings. Steven ended up finishing High School at night and never looked back. He stayed with Ralph through several more films was promoted to Animation Director and Key Animator/Character Designer on the Ralph Bakshi / Frank Frazetta feature Fire and Ice.

After that "back door" entry into the animation industry, he landed the unusual entry job of Animator at Disney Pictures animating on The Black Cauldron and stayed there for about five years and managed to leave just in time to avoid the unexpected Animation Renaissance during the 90's. He returned to Bakshi to direct on the groundbreaking Mighty Mouse series and then he spent 12 years working on and off with Rich Animation on a series of direct-to-videos, doing character design and layout and was Animation Director / Character Designer / Key Animator on The Swan Princess. He also was key animator during this period of Holli Would on Cool World.

Then he started the job that he is to this day still best remembered as one of the directors and the sole character designer on X-Men: Evolution. After the second season of X-Men: Evolution was completed, Dreamworks Animation hired him as a story artist while at night he continued to do all the character designs for X-Men: Evolution for seasons 3 and 4.

After a five year stint at DW he went on to be a director on Marvel/LionGate as well as the character designer on The Ultimate Avengers and its sequel. He was hired after that to be one of the director’s on the popular, but short-lived TV series, Wolverine and the X-Men for Marvel and Kickstart. He was one of the director’s on The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes for Marvel and Starz. And in his quest to continue to be employable has been illustrating children's books based on film and comic characters for HarperCollins (and other publishers) and started to "back-door" his way into comics. These projects include an on-line comic for ERB, Inc. "The Eternal Savage"™ and work on several graphic novels.
