Sandahl Bergman grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. She had the good fortune to be hired as a member of the dance ensemble at Starlight Theatre, performing every summer season during her high school years. Starlight Theatre is the 2nd largest summer stock theatre in the U.S.
Sandahl had in hand her Actor’s Equity union card at age 14 and at age 17, upon graduating from Shawnee Mission East High School, moved to L.A. to pursue her career. Credits include: The Dean Martin Show, Laugh In, The Bill Cosby Show, many television specials and the film “Mame,” starring Lucille Ball. It was the Broadway show “Gigi” that took Sandahl to N.Y. at age 20, where she lived for 10 years. Broadway N.Y. credits include: “Coco,” “Follies,” “Mack and Mabel,” “Pippin,” “A Chorus Line,” and “Dancin’.”
Upon the release of Bob Fosse’s film “All That Jazz,” the musical number ‘Take Off With Us’ gained her much attention and a television and film career continued. Most celebrated T.V. credits: Principal performer in the 1981 and 1983 Academy Awards, Hart to Hart, Cheers, Designing Women and Moonlighting. The episode from Moonlighting was nominated for an Emmy. The dance sequence with Bruce Willis was directed by Stanley Donen, the director of the classic film “Singing In The Rain” starring Gene Kelly. Most celebrated films: “All That Jazz,” “Xanadu,” “Conan The Barbarian” (winning a Golden Globe Award for her performance as Valeria), “Red Sonja,” “Stewardess School,” “Airplane II,” and “The Singing Detective.”
Sandahl returned to the theatre to perform in the Broadway musical “Chicago” from 1998-2002 and last summer did the show “Guys and Dolls” starring Jessica Biel at The Hollywood Bowl.
She currently lives in L.A. and continues to work with N.Y. casting. auditioning and training actresses for the role of Roxie Hart for Broadway and London companies of “Chicago.”
