The 'professional' start of that career began at Continuity Studios in New York, a commercial art studio specializing in advertising illustration. As Frank turned 20 years old, he got a crash course in the basics of the commercial art world during this time and, in 1977 returned to California to open a studio of his own where he has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since.
Frank's artwork has been present on the art collector's market and in a number of gallery shows for years. His first limited edition art prints and portfolios were published in 1978. Since those early days, Frank has worked extensively both in the fine art market and the entertainment field for more than 30 years now. He has worked as a production artist, designer, art director, writer, editor and creative director for a variety of companies including Dreamworks, Yahoo!, LucasArts, Marvel Comics, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LeapFrog, Mattel, Universal Studios and Rocket Science Games.
Moving to the Santa Cruz mountains in 2005, Frank envisioned the Skyland Gallery as a natural extension in the latest chapter of his artistic endeavors. Co-founding the gallery in 2009 along with his wife, Lela Dowling, Frank looks forward to focusing on the theme of nature in his latest explorations of creativity.
Currently, Frank has turned yet another favorite hobby into a business with POP DADDY VINTAGE, a collectibles store based in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. http://popbotics.com/ Pop Daddy buys and sells vintage toys, art, advertising, novelties, books & magazines and will have a booth at Big Wow again this year. Stop by and get happy!
